Iqbal Begum Munir Ahmad Group

Iqbal Begum baji is a 36-year-old married lady and has resided in a city called Arifwala, Pakistan for the past 10 years. She is an uneducated lady; she couldn’t get an education due to her family’s meager financial resources. Her husband's name is Munir Ahmad and he is a delivery man and has been doing this work for the past 5 years. He used his own vehicle called “Shahzore” for delivering various items (wheat, fruit, & vegetables) from one place to another. Iqbal baji has no children. She spends her time making of embroidered clothes. She earns an income doing this work. She used her income to renovate her house. She successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a micro-finance institute in Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to repair her husband’s vehicle so that he will be able to continue his work.

She is joined in her loan by several more women from her locality. Rehana baji and Sakina baji each want a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). Khursheed baji wants a loan to pay the installments on her auto-rickshaw. Shamim baji wants a loan to buy a buffalo for her milk-selling business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
