Chey Sinoeun is a local landlord in Phnom Penh and she is using this loan to buy another home. He husband works as a mototaxi driver and earns $2/day and 2 of her daughters work in a garment factory. The households combined income is not enough to support their children in going to school, so instead they must work in the factories. The house Chey Sinoeun will buy with this loan will be rented out to garment factory workers who come in for work from the provinces and are away from their families. As she receives more income, she plans to buy yet another home for renting out until she has enough income to send her children to university.

Journal Update.

Entrepreneur: Chey Sinoeun
Location: Phnom Penh City, Cambodia

Chey Sinoeun is originally from Prey Veng but moved to Phnom Penh over 10 years now. She is a good housewife and has business renting the rooms from her house to the garment worker nearby while her husband is a motor-taxi driver. To earn more money to support her family she has asked a long of $1000 from Credit to build out more rooms.

She first heard about Credit’s low interest from a loan officer who visited her commune. She decided to ask for a loan because the interest rate of 2.5% per month is not very high and CREDIT provides a long loan term that she can afford. With the loan of $1000 she received she began to build more rooms to rent out to others workers. She has been pleased with the results of her investment and can see her business growing day to day. On average, her income is up to $10 each day. She also told a loan officer that, her husband’s business right now makes less profit because of the high price of gas. People have no will to pay more even they all know the gas price is skyrocketed. The gas price has put motor-taxi drivers out of road. Anyway, she still smile and happy with the loan impact.

Again, she states that the loan is very useful as it is provide a chance to all poor entrepreneurs to start and sustain their businesses. Finally, she would like to say thanks to all lenders for interest helping Cambodian entrepreneurs like her family.
