Successful expansion!

Entrepreneur: Sim Srey Tum
Location: Phnom Penh City, Cambodia

Mrs. Sim Srey Tum has used her Kiva-funded loan to purchase fabric and supplies to expand the type and quantity of clothing she can produce. She has increased her income from $4 to $5 per day, and expects it to increase further as she expands her customer base. She plans to reinvest this additional income into her tailoring business and help fund her children’s education.

She sought out a loan from CREDIT MFI when she decided to expand her business. She had experience borrowing from a moneylender before, but he charged 20% per month and it was difficult to repay. The interest rate of 2.5% that CREDIT MFI charges is affordable for her and the long loan term gives her time to repay. She was two months late on one payment because she had to spend the money on her parents funeral, but has since repaid that amount and has not been late on any other payments. She has had no trouble running her business and expects to take out another loan in the future to further expand her business.

In the photograph she is shown working in front of her expanded stock of fabric.
