Mrs. Nalin Pao Village Bank Group

This village bank group of 17 members is located in Chamka village in Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia. The members plan to use the loan for various purposes. Mrs. Nalin Pao was elected the village bank president. She is a farmer who owns a plot of land to cultivate both rice and vegetables, but her field is infertile. Thus, Mrs. Nalin Pao decided to ask for a loan to buy fertilizer, vegetable seed, and a piglet for breeding. She hopes to increase her income and improve her living conditions with this loan. She is a 26-year-old widow and the mother of a child who is attending the local school.

Ten members in this group will receive end-of-term (EoT) loans and the rest will have monthly payment loans. In EoT loans, payment on principal is not required until the very end of the loan term but is allowed at any time that the borrower is able to make such a payment. The EoT loan is AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. Most clients start to make principal payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
