Juana Ambicho Luna

Juana Ambicho Luna is 59 years old. She is a member of the communal bank Damas del Oriente, so named for the Villa Oriente neighborhood where the bank members meet monthly. She was born in Huánuco, a city in the Andean mountains in Perú. She came to the jungle city of Pucallpa in 1975 with her husband and one child. In 1979 they purchased a plot in the José Carlos Mariatil area and there she birthed and raised four more children.

Juana’s business is to sell knitwear clothing. She will travel to Lima 20 hours by bus once or twice a month to buy clothing in bulk. The merchandise she purchases will stock her store until she makes her next trip. Juana currently sells out of a stall in the “Mercado #2” market. She must pay S./ 100 ($33) in monthly rent for a space where she will offer polo t-shirts, blouses and other men’s and women’s clothing.

Juana is currently requesting a loan of 2,100 Nuevo Soles to purchase t-shirts, underwear and men's pants for her store. She will repay the loan in monthly installments through her communal bank.
