Gladys is a member of the Alianza ("Alliance") Village Bank. She is 42 years old and is separated with one son. Gladys has several businesses: she has a pig farm, she buys and sells grains, and she also grinds some of the grain into flour to sell. She buys the grains from farmers or intermediaries, and resells them (whole or ground) in local markets. She sells some of the flour to market vendors, who use it to make wawa, a traditional kind of bread. Gladys also sells suckling pigs for 16 soles per kilo on special occasions like Christmas and New Year's.
