The village bank loan group consists of thirty-two people who live in the village of Phum Saeprammuoy, in Kampong Cham province. Each of the members will use the loan for a different purpose. Mrs. Mai Sman is the village bank loan group president who has been selected by the members. She is a farmer who owns a small plot of land and cultivates rice to earn for living. Her husband, Mr. Sman Some, is a laborer who earns a small income. Together, they support the family. Mrs. Mai Sman is 57 years old and the mother of two children who are all employed. Although Mrs. Mai Sman’s family members work hard, they still do not earn enough income to support the family. In order to improve their living conditions, Mrs. Mai Sman decided to ask for a loan to buy a cow and start a breeding business. She hopes to increase her income after she sells the calves.
