Comfort Opoku

Comfort Opoku is forty-three years old. She is a married mother of six children. Three of her children have completed high school while three are still in the basic school. Comfort lives with her husband, a farmer, and her children in a mining/farming community called Bibiani in the Western Region. Her husband cultivates palm nuts in the community in which they live.

Comfort works hard to help her husband provide for the family. She sells beef in the local market square. Comfort also roasts some of the meat and sells it in the form of kebab. She says children in her community also come to collect for hawking on commission.

Comfort orders the meat from Burkina Faso where cost is quite economical. She has been in business for ten years and wants a loan to order beef in bulk. She belongs to a Trust Bank group called Nyame Nhyira (God’s Blessings). The group members guarantee for one another as collateral to access the loan.
