Gifty Nyarko

Gifty Nyarko is 24 years old. She is married and the mother of two children, one of whom is in school. She has been a local manufacturer of palm oil and palm kernel for five years. Palm oil is produced from palm nut fruits, and the palm kernel is a by-product of palm oil, which is produced first. The palm kernel is processed through various stages to obtain the palm kernel oil.

Gifty produces and supplies her product to food vendors, who use it to prepare their meals. She even treks to the villages to purchase the finished goods when demand is very high. She wants to use the loan to buy more palm nuts, and gallon containers to store the oil, so she can increase her efficiency and produce in larger quantities.

Fortunately, the government of Ghana has provided the community with a machine that most women use to manufacture the oil in bulk, saving them from using antiquated methods of getting the oil. She believes this will help her to expand her business, and to raise more income to support her husband, to provide food for her family, and to finance her children’s education.

Gifty belongs to the community trust group called "Nyame Nhyira," which means "God's Blessing," and her picture was taking during their group meeting. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and peer pressure to repay the loan.
