Mrs. Vy Yab Village Bank Group

This village bank which consists of ten people is located in Phum Da Village in Kampong Chhnang Province. Mrs. Vy Yab is the village bank president who has been selected by the members. She is a fisherwoman. In her business, she now faces a small problem because she does not have enough fishing tools, so she decided to ask for a loan to buy nets and fishing lines to catch fish. She hopes she can gather more fish to support her family. Mrs. Vy Yab is a 48-year-old widow with 10 children, five of whom are working in a garment factory while the others are attending the local school and also help their mother when they have free time.

Mrs. Vy Yab will share this loan with the other group members, who will use their portion for a variety of purposes.

All the members in this village bank are seeking end-of-term (EoT) loans so they are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. EoT loans are AMK's main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia's poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK's clients make their payments on time.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
