Lalotea is married with children and has joined SPBD’s program in order to help sustain her family. She decided to set up a business where she could utilize her talent in creating traditional Samoan handicrafts. Lalotea now operates a stand at one of Samoa’s flea markets where she sells her crafts as well as fruits and vegetables. As the tourism industry in Samoa expands, there is a growing market for traditional crafts. Despite the competition from other vendors, Lalotea’s business succeeds given her unique designs and her ability to market her wares as being made from all natural materials. A loan will enable her to purchase additional raw materials and expand her product range.
