My name is Razia and I’m 37 years old and a married lady. I reside in a famous historical place named Yadgar of City Lahore, Pakistan. I have been living in this city for the past 20 years. I got my education up until the 8th grade but for more education, I didn’t show any interest. From the beginning I have had an interest in sewing clothes and embroidery. My husband's name is Waris Masih Sahoutra and he has a scrap business. He sells scrap to the community. In particular, he keeps iron in his stock, and people come to sell and buy iron and other iron items from him.

I have six children: four daughters and two sons. My eldest daughter is in the 9th grade. The one next to her is in the 8th standard. The youngest to her is in the 7th standard, and my youngest daughter is in the 4th standard. My sons are also read in the 4th standard. I and my husband have decided to share the financial burden. I help him by paying the children’s education expenses through sewing clothes, and he bears the house expenses through his income. I successfully repaid my five loans which I took from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now I am applying for a loan to buy more scrap (iron) to increase the income of my husband.

I am a group leader of a few more women of my locality. Shahnaz baji wants a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (a three-wheeled motor vehicle). Mussarat baji wants a loan to buy paint for her paint business. Shahnaz baji and Nasreen baji each want a loan to buy scrap for their scrap businesses.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
