Fatia Alidu

Fatia Alidu, age forty-five, is a married woman with two children who are currently in high school. Fatia lives with her family in Atebubu in Ghana. Atebubu is a town in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. Atebubu is a farming community. The inhabitants produce food crops like maize, yams, millet, and beans.

To support her family, Fatia runs a small grocery kiosk in her neighbourhood. She also sells food items, such as macaroni and tomatoes, on a table in front of her kiosk. She has been in this business for fifteen years.

Fatia buys her goods from the farmers in the community and treks to the markets in nearby towns to sell them. She says that she also supplies her products to food vendors in her community.

Fatia wants more working capital to meet the cash demands of her business. She wants to buy the goods in bulk to save her from having to make frequent trips to the city. She hopes to build up savings to provide her kids with a very good education and a brighter future.

Fatia is in a community group called “Do Good.” The group members guarantee for one another as collateral to access the loan and support one another to repay.
