The group of associates, Las Populares, was born of the necessity to make thier business grow. The members of the group are neighbors that live in the city of Nindiri, are of humble backgrounds, at times very expressive at other very quiet, they are respectful and very friendly. The started their businesses in order to obtain better income that would help them support the economic responsibilities of their partners. They started by selling only snack out of a basket. With the loans from ADIM they have expanded their business and now offer more products. Reina has offered more products of basic necessity that she buys at the Masaya market twice a week. She is unable to cover the demand for goods due to lack of capital, which is why she came to ADIM for a loan. The members of this group of associates dream of having a store. Because of their tenacity, they know that it will happen, especially since they have the support of their husbands and grown children who have been very helpful in the projects taken on by their mothers.

Important Information About This Loan
Kiva recently posted a message regarding the “No Pago” movement in Nicaragua (a movement for non-payment of loans). This movement, supported mostly by farmers of the north of Nicaragua with ties to the left-wing party in Nicaragua, has been organizing protests and had submitted a law to the government to create a moratorium on debt repayment. Initially it was unclear whether this law would pass, which would have had severe effects on the banking and microfinance industry in Nicaragua. However in the last month the executive branch rejected the law in its current form. The No Pago movement still exists but seems to have lost some steam. There is still a possibility that a law encouraging more restructuring of loans could pass next year, and microfinance institutions are voluntarily restructuring loans to delinquent borrowers, still increasing risk of lending in Nicaragua. However indications are that the situation is less dramatic than before.
