Georgina Hayford

Georgina Hayford is 40 years old. She is married and has five children who are currently in school. She has manufactured palm oil and palm kernel oil for six years now. Palm oil is produced from palm nuts, and palm kernel oil is produced from palm kernel. These oils are used to prepare many local dishes. She produces the oils and supplies them to food vendors to prepare their meals. She normally switches her production between the two products. That is, after producing palm oil she automatically obtains the raw material to produce palm kernel oil.

Georgina will use the loan to buy more bags of palm nuts and an electric milling machine so she can produce the oils in larger quantities. She believes this increased production will augment her income so she can better provide for her family and finance her children’s education. She belongs to the community group called “Tumi wura” (Almighty) Trust Group. Her picture was taken at a group meeting. In this group, members provide social collateral for one another to guarantee the repayment of loans.
