Esther is married with five children and lives in Ntamulung, a quarter in Bamenda, Cameroon. Esther runs a small business in her house with her children. With this loan, she plans to buy more cassava, egusi, fowls and work more cassava farms.

This will be Esther's fifth loan from GHAPE; she has been a member since 2000. She has been quite successful in the past with her business due to her location (right on the main road), the quality of her products, and her reasonable prices. She buys in bulk, which causes the price to be minimal, and her children help her to process the cassava and produce water fufu. She has a strong customer base and is confident that she will be able to increase her sales.

The part of the profits from this loan will be used for the school fees of Esther’s children, and the other part will be used for medication and food for for the family. Esther does not foresee a problem with her loan repayments as they are quite small repayments every month. She intends to start repayment in the fourth month after taking the loan.

Update on Esther Ngwen Alambi

Entrepreneur: Alambi Esther Ngwen
Location: Ntamulung, Bamenda, Nw. Province, Cameroon

When Esther applied her loan from GHAPE, her intentions were to buy egusi, but she received the money later than expected, so egusi was already out of season for the year. Instead, she used her loan for producing water fufu, breeding her fowls and farming, and has reserved some of her funds for the next season of egusi. Overall, Esther's business is moving quite well at the moment, but she faces the challenge of large farming expenses.

With the profits of her business, Esther can continue to send two of her five children to school. She said that she hopes Kiva lenders continue to support her in the future. She also explained that these loans have helped solve some of the problems, like access to medicines, that many Africans face today.
