Irshad M. Mushtaq Group

Irshad baji is 52 year old woman and resides in Lahore, Pakistan. She owns a two room brick house and has been living in it for the past 35 years. Her husband, M. Mushtaq, works in a Government office. Irshad baji is the mother of five children: four sons and one daughter. Irshad baji has been sewing clothes for the past 15 years. She has successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan) and is now applying for a loan to buy more paints to expand her son’s paint selling business.

She is a group leader of a few more members in her locality. Razia begum baji is requesting a loan to buy beams for her shuttering business. Shazia amen baji is requesting a loan to buy clothes for her clothing business. Shahnaz baji is requesting a loan to buy paint brushes for resale. Niamat baji is requesting a loan to repair her auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible for repayment of the entire loan.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
