Mrs. Noeur Khum Village Bank Group

The village bank which consists of 13 people is located in Tong Rong Village in Kampong Cham Province. Mrs. Noeur Khum is the village bank president who has been selected by the members. She has 0.5-hectares to cultivate rice on to earn her living. Her husband, Mr. Try Pov, is a palm juice collector who gathers it to process into palm sugar or wine. He cannot do his work because he cannot climb up to gather palm juice. In order to deal with this problem, Mrs. Noeur Khum decided to ask for a loan to buy bamboo to tie into a ladder so her husband can re-start the business. She is 38 years old and the mother of two children, one of whom is working in a garment factory while the other is attending the local school.

One member of this village bank has an end-of-term loan and the rest have monthly-payment loans. The end-of-term member is not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because they are the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
