Shamim Maqbool Masih Group

Shamim baji is a wife of Maqbool Masih and lives in a city named Borewala in Pakistan. She owns a two-room brick house and has been living in it for the past 25 years. She is the mother of two sons. Shamim baji’s husband and sons have a wood selling business. Shamim baji herself has a clothes sewing business. She has been sewing clothes for the past 15 years. She successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more wood to expand her family business.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Naziran baji wants a loan to buy a juicer machine to sell seasonal fruits juices. Suraiya bano baji wants a loan to buy a photocopier machine. Gulzaran baji wants a loan to buy woods to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
