Srey Im's Group

Mrs. Srey Im is group leader of the four members who all live in Tro Mukh Ti Muoy village in Kampong Cham Province. She is a farmer who owns a plot of land used to cultivate rice to earn her living. Since her plantation is going well, she wants to also cultivate rice during the dry season. Unfortunately, she cannot plant because she does not have enough money. Therefore, Mrs. Srey Im decided to ask for a loan to buy rice, fertilizers and pesticide. She hopes to increase her income and improve her living conditions with this loan. Her husband, Mr. Seng Sophy, is an ice-cream seller. Mrs. Srey Im is 36 years old and the mother of three children. Two are attending the local school while the youngest one is too young to work or study.

This is a group loan consisting of mainly end-of-term loans. Three members have end-of-term loans and one has a monthly payment loan. These members are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because they are the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. This system allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able. Most clients start to make their payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s client make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and a default rate of 0% on Kiva.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
