Perpetual is a 46-year-old married woman with four children, all of whom are currently in school. She loves selling goods, the business through which she obtains her source of livelihood. More specifically, for the past twenty years, she has been selling yams, peppers, and smoked and dried fish to support her family. She treks to farming communities to buy her stock of yams and peppers from farmers, and she buys her fish from fish mongers. By doing so, she avoids dealing with middlemen, who buy from the farmers and fish mongers and then resell to her at higher prices.

She is now seeking a loan to buy yams, peppers, and assorted fish in bulk to better serve her customers. In turn, she hopes to use some of her profits to support her kids in school.

Perpetual is a member of a community group known as The Voice Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee each other's loans as social collateral (i.e., if one member does not promptly repay her portion of the loan, then the other members are responsible for curing the arrears), and they provide support for one another to repay their respective loans. She notes that she does not sell any of her goods on days when her group meets, and that her picture was taken during her group meeting.
