Florence, the leader of a five-member group, is a 37-year-old married woman with four children aged between 4 months and 14 years, three of whom go to school. She owns and resides in a two-roomed house that has neither electricity nor piped water. The family gets three meals a day and works in a semi-urban area which is on the outskirts of Kampala. Her monthly expenses include rent, school fees and medication.

Florence operates a restaurant in her home, serving an average of 20 customers each day While she began this business four years ago and has managed to improve her standard of living, she has also started another business operating a bar to supplement her income. Both businesses, however, are hindered during rainy season, when it is difficult for her customers to patronize her enterprises due to disruptions in transportation, etc.

She is requesting this loan in order to buy a refrigerator and acquire electricity for her home. Florence is aspiring to eventually buy a plot of land upon which to operate her businesses, thereby eliminating the payment of rent.

Florence was recently visited by a loans officer and found her business doing well. Florence who used the loan she received from MCDT to increase on her stock

The problem she faces in her business is that of lack of customers at times

She chose this kind of business because she makes enough profits out of it.
