Syeda Fayyaz Syed Mazhar Ali Shah Group

Syeda Fayyaz baji is 40 years old and lives Pakpattan, Pakistan. She owns a two-room, brick house. Her husband, Syed Mazhar ali shah, is a homeopathic (treats illness with herbs) doctor. He has 4 years experience in this work. Fayyaz baji is a mother of six children: four daughters and two sons. Her sons are in kindergarten. All of her daughters are enrolled in a local school in her neighborhood. Fayyaz baji’s husband has a good reputation in the community. Most of the people come to take medicine from him. Fayyaz baji helps her husband in the making of herbal medicines. She successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more herbs to make medicines.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Humaira baji requests a loan to buy vegetables to resell. Aqeela baji requests a loan to buy phones for her mobile phone shop. Sakina baji requests a loan to buy spices to sell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
