As a Kiva Fellow working with Kiva's local partner, Prisma, I was fortunate to recently meet Rony Ranfieri Ordonez, who you recently lent to.

Rony works in a small jewelry shop right on the central plaza of downtown Danli, Honduras. His window looks out on to a 17th Century Spanish church and small, mostly clean, central park. He feels his location is key to his business success. Though he worked as a jeweler for 21 years as his family has long been in the business, he has been running the shop for only one year. In that time he has greatly improved the furnishings of place with newly white-washed walls and improved lighting. Rony has 4 children, one only 2 months old who had lots to cry about the whole time I was there. He used the loan to purchase expensive gold jewelry that he hopes to sell to wealthier clientele. Now that his shop appears nicer he hopes that he can attract a different client base, and sell his jewelry at a higher rate.

Rony also makes earings out of glass beads and fixes watches to supplement his jewelry selling.

It was a pleasure to talk to Rony and learn a little more about how he used his Kiva loan.
