Hello, we are a group called "Mujeres victoriosas" (meaning Triumphant Women). We are fighters and we have many hopes of become a success. We are close neighbors and with various years' experience in the businesses that we run. Our group is made up of the following:

Ana Avila. I am the coordinator of the gorup and I have 3 years' experience in making and selling foods. My daughter depends on me, I am a single mom.

Martha makes and sells traditional soup "mondongo y nacatamales". The mondongo soup is a very delicious soup native to our country and it sells very well.

Lorena sells vogue products (cosmetics and creams etc.). She is a single mom of 4 children.

Lucidalia sells meat burritos, beans, sausages and drinks at a taxi station. It is a very strategic locale for the sales of her products. She is a widow.

Francisca has been selling clothing for the past 4 years and she lives alone.

We all require a loan for our businesses, our only source of income. We require to sell more to have better earnings.

Victorious Women

Entrepreneur: Mujeres Victoriosas Group
Location: Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Mujeres Victoriosas is a group of 5 women who have all invested their portion of the loan differently.

Ana Eduviges Avila and Martha Mirian Pavon Avila are sisters who work together in a small restaurant. From their small, one stove kitchen they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to over 90 clients a day. Popular items are fruit drinks, tamales, soup and plato tipico (a plate of beans, eggs, fried bananas, meat and the hugely popular Honduran butter). With their portion of the group loan they’ve been able to add two new very popular items- nacatamales and Sopa de Mondongo, which is a traditional soup made of tripe and vegetables. Each bowl of Sopa de Mondongo sells for 30 Lempiras, which is about $1.39, and each nacatamale sells for 79 cents. This is Martha’s third loan and Ana’s 4th. They plan to take out another loan after they repay this one to increase the amount of meat they can buy at one time.

Lorena Lizeth Hernandez Hernandez is unmarried and lives with her mother and her three children, only one is old enough to go to school and he really likes his teacher! She used her loan to buy a wider variety of Avon catalogs. She goes around her neighborhood and sells make-up and other beauty items from the catalogue. She has many of the items from the catalog on hand, but when she doesn’t she orders them from Avon who then sends her a commission of 25%. Each catalog costs 12 Lempira (64 cents). She has been doing this kind of work for 6 years.

Lorena’s mother, Francisca Hernandez Sanchez sells used clothes and works a domestic servant in a house in Tegucigalpa. After work, she takes advantage of the house’s location to walk from street to street selling clothes twice a week. She buys a pair of jeans for 80 Lempira and sells it for 100 Lempira, making a profit of $1.06. She is able to sell several pairs a week. She used the loan to increase the sizes of clothes that she carries.

Lucidalia Reyes has been making tortillas and burritas (a local dish of tortilla and butter) for 5 years, but this is her first loan. With this loan she was able to expand her tortilla business, and now offers eggs and fruit juices as well. She makes tortillas and brings them to a local taxi station to sell to the taxi drivers. Each burrita sells for 20 Lempira, or $1.06. She is able to make a profit of 150 Lempira daily ($7.94). She is unmarried and has 4 children, one of which is a taxi driver. Of her six grandchildren, Lucidalia cares for 2 in her house.
