Rafiqan baji is a 53-year-old widow who lives in Shah Rukn, Pakistan. She is the mother of six children: three sons and three daughters. Since her husband died from a heart attack, Rafiqan baji has struggled to give her children a good future. She started sewing clothes for people in her neighborhood which grew to sewing clothes for people in her community. She didn’t marry again because she didn’t want to diversify her responsibilities. Her sons are fruit sellers. They buy fruits from a fruit market to sell on fruit carts in different areas in Shah Rukn. Her eldest daughter helps her in stitching clothes. The two younger daughters are in school. Rafigan successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more seasonal fruits to expand her sons' fruit-selling business.

She is joined in her loan group by a three members: Zubaida baji requests a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop. Shabana baji requests a loan to buy clothes for her cloth-selling business. Firdous baji requests a loan to buy material (colored thread and sketches) for her embroidery business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
