Ramzan baji is a 42-year-old lady who resides in the city of Shah Rukn in Pakistan, a place famous for its shrines and hand-made items. Ramzan baji is a very hardworking lady who believes in herself; indeed, her determination was what brought her from poverty to prosperity. Ramzan baji is the mother of four children: two sons and two daughters. Her elder son works at a gas station, while her younger son is in the 6th standard. As for her daughters, her elder daughter helps her make embroidered dresses for clients, while her younger daughter is in the 8th standard.

Ramzan baji operates a clothes-selling business. She began her career as a seamstress (she stitched various designed clothes), and eventually she started taking orders from the people of her community. She has 10 years worth of experience in this business. Now Ramzan baji is applying for a loan in order to buy a machine which will help her make more embroidered clothes and which will in turn enable her to generate more profits.

She is joined in her loan group by five other members: Naziran baji seeks a loan to buy a washing machine for her laundry business; Muniran baji wants a loan to repair her truck; Razia baji requests a loan to buy various goods (e.g., lentils, cooking oil, and spices) for her food business; Nasreen baji is in need of a loan to buy products (e.g., plastic bottles and waste paper) for her scrap business; and Samina baji would like a loan to buy medicine for her medical store. In this way, this is a group loan; as such, the loan proceeds will be distributed amongst the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. Notably, the group members mutually guarantee one another's loans; as a result, if one group member does not repay her portion of the loan, then the other members are responsible for curing the arrears.
