Modesta Fernandez Mallqui

Modesta belongs to the communal bank “Cruz de Motupe” in the Independencia district of Huaraz of the Ancash department.

She is single, 52 years old, and lives alone as her four children now have their own families. She comments that her biggest mistake was to join in the business with her partner because, after many years together, they separated and had to divide the business and work alone afterwards. For this reason, she tells us, she had to start over after seeing how her enterprise had shrunk. Her children did not take advantage of the education Modesta wanted to provide for them, and she now finds herself alone and self-employed. She sells her specialties on foot, from the corner of San Cristóbal and 13th of December Streets in Huaraz. She buys her products from wholesalers, such as hot peppers and condiments.

With this loan of 500.00 soles, to be canceled in four installments, she will invest in the purchase of hot peppers at wholesale which will be in reserve for the hot pepper paste that she will sell.

Modesta mentions that she joined the communal bank through a friend, and that she enjoys the gatherings where she can speak with members. She would like to attend lectures where she could learn how to improve her business and her personal life.

Es soltera, tiene 52 años de edad y vive sola debido a que sus 4 hijos ya formaron sus familias. Comenta que su gran error fue compartir el negocio con su conviviente porque después de tantos años de estar juntos al separarse tuvieron que repartir las utilidades del negocio y trabajar cada uno por su cuenta, es por ello, comenta, que tenía que empezar de nuevo al observar como su negocio había disminuido. Sus hijos no aprovecharon la educación que Modesta les quiso dar, manifiesta, ahora se encuentra sola y trabaja solamente para ella. Vende especerías en la esquina del jr. San Cristóbal y el jr.13 de diciembre en Huaraz de manera ambulatoria. Compra sus productos de los mayoristas tanto el ají como los condimentos.

Con este préstamo de S/. 500.00, el cual será cancelado en 4 cuotas, invertirá en la compra de ají al por mayor, que le servirá de reserva para los molidos de ají que venderá.

Modesta menciona que llegó a su banco comunal por medio de una amiga y que le agrada las reuniones donde puede conversar con ellas y también le gustaría tener talleres para mejorar su negocio y su vida personal.
