The village bank loan which is located in Putthi Sam Village in Takeo Province consists of nineteen people and they plan to use the loan for different purposes.

Mrs. Dorn Hang is a village bank president who has been selected by the members. She and her husband, Mr. Luy Pheng, have a 1-hectar field on which they cultivate rice. On this plantation, they now face a small problem because their field now has infertile soil which has a bad effect on their crop. To solve this problem, Mrs. Dorn Hang decided to ask for a loan to buy fertilizers to support the field and to make their crop more productive. Mrs. Dorn Hang is 50 years old and the mother of six children, three of whom are employed in a garment factory while the others are attending the local school.

This is a village bank loan consisting of mainly end-of-term loans. Twelve members have end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. They are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time.

Update on Loan to Dorn Hang Group

Entrepreneur: Mrs. Dorn Hang Village Bank Group
Location: Putthi Sam Village, Cambodia

Hello Kiva Lenders,

Earlier this month, an AMK client officer visited the Putthi Sam village in Cambodia's Takeo Province to get an update on Mrs. Dorn Hang, leader of the village bank loan. The loan was recently paid back in full.

Mrs. Dorn Hang ran into some trouble when the soil in her 1-hectare rice field started to become infertile, affecting her crop. She used her loan amount of 300,000 Riel ($75 USD) to buy some fertilizer. As a result, she said that her field has yielded much more rice and that her rice business has experienced an increase in profit. Additionally, she is anticipating that sales will be greater than last year's despite the setback. With the additional profits, she has been able to start a savings for her family. And with her rice field back to normal, she plans on taking another loan out with AMK in order to hire laborers to plow and work on the field.

She told us that the other group loan members had no problem paying back their portion of the loan and the entire group wanted to thank Kiva lenders for funding their loan through AMK!

Be sure to read more about Kiva's excellent partner MFI in Cambodia, AMK (http://www.kiva.org/about/aboutPartner?id=109).

And, make another loan to one of AMK's currently fundraising clients! (http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&partner_id=109&status=fundRaising&sortBy=New+to+Old)
