Mariam Namusisi is a member of the Kisimba women’s group in Lugazi. She is a married businesswoman with a retail shop that she has owned for six years. Her husband helps her out with the shop at times, as well as providing the family with food and a decent shelter.
Before joining her lending group, Mariam says that her shop was so small that a time came when she was selling almost nothing. But with the coming of loans, her shop is now self-sustaining and will need a few pushes every time she gets a loan.
Thanks to the loans she has received, all the products in her shop are now in large quantities and, as a result, her family is better off. She is now able to pay school fees for her children. Mariam also plans to build commercial houses for rent in her trading centre and transform her shop into a wholesale business.
