Tabitha Sarange Nyakundi

Tabitha Sarange Nyakundi is a registered nurse who lives in Nakuru, Kenya with her husband and their three children. They have a fourteen year old boy and two girls, who are twelve and two.

Tabitha owns and runs the Matutu Medical Clinic within her community. The clinic is three years old and provides general medical treatment, provider initiated testing and counseling on HIV/AIDS, prenatal and postnatal care, and family planning. In the near future, Tabitha will also offer child welfare programs as well as post-abortion care for woman who have suffered from illicit abortions.

Before she started the clinic, Tabitha worked in a large hospital. She ended her employment there when she saw the need for a medical provider in her local community and opened up the small clinic. She employs one other person. Tabitha has a good flow of patients but as they all have a low income, she doesn't have a strong profit margin.

Tabitha is applying for a loan for $1,200 to improve her clinic and the services it provides to the community. She will use part of the loan to purchase equipment (such as a pressure cooker to sterilize instruments), a speculum, and a patient examination couch. Tabitha also wants to expand the clinic and will use some of the loan money to pay the rent for another room in her building. She will also repaint and partition a space to use as a waiting room for her clients.
