Nesiba was born in 1948. She lives in Kotorsko, an agricultural village in Bosnia. She is married and lives with her husband who receives a retirement pension of 400KM/month, (about $261USD). She also has an adult son, who continues to live with her.

To support her family, Nesiba grows vegetables and raises chickens and cows. She has had four microfinance loans in the past, all of which she repaid successfully. She used the first two loans to buy calves, the third loan to buy chickens, and the fourth loan to buy food for her cows. Her husband helps her in the field and with taking care of the animals.

Nesiba requests a loan of 1,500KM from Women for Women, International, to purchase food for her three cows. In the future, she hopes to use another loan to purchase another calf.

We visited Nesiba this spring and we were glad to see that things are getting better for her and her family. The winter is the hardest season to survive for unemployed people because they have no regular income, she explains. During the winter they spend all the money they earned and all the supplies they made during the spring, summer and autumn. So Nesiba used the money she raised from WWI to buy food for her cattle to feed them during the cold months. Winter was cruel on her husband too, he was ill and some of the WWI loan was spent to buy medications he desperatly needed. At this time she is working on her farm hoping to have good vegetables and cattle to sell in the autumn. This is not a first loan she took from WWI, and she hopes it`s not the last.

Thank you Kiva lenders for making it easier for this woman and her family to survive this winter!!!
