Christian Alimo

Christiana Alimo is 30 years old, and she is the mother of two children: one child has completed senior high school, while the other is still in school. She is very hard-working, and the income she generates from her business is critical to her family's well-being. More specifically, she trades in charcoal in her neighborhood. Charcoal, she explains, is a very popular source of energy for cooking purposes in nearly every Ghanaian home. Christiana obtains her supply of charcoal from the surrounding villages of Jamani in the Eastern region of Ghana (where she lives), and she sells such charcoal at retail prices to her customers.

Now, she is requesting a loan to buy charcoal in bulk to thereby increase her inventory of charcoal. Moreover, she hopes that the loan proceeds will enable her to increase her savings in order to pay for her children’s school fees.

Christiana is a member of the community group known as the Knowledge Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee each others' loans as social collateral to ensure that their respective loans are promptly repaid. Her picture was taken at one of her group's meetings.
