The Nieta group is comprised of ten women who, on average, are 24 years old and have 4 children. Most of them live in large traditional families in the village of Marka-Coungo (second administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Linked by bonds of marriage, neighborhood and family, these women sell firewood and food products.
After six solidarity loans (group loans), all repaid without problems, this group is seeking its seventh loan from the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution program.
They intend to buy 1'200 liters of milk from farmers in Marka-Coungo and from the surrounding villages. They resell part of it to wholesalers coming from large cities such as Bamako (the capital of the Republic of Mali), the remaining part being retailed for cash at the market of Marka-Coungo, on the side of Highway 9, linking Bamako to Ségou. They count on making each a monthly profit of XOF 40'000 (ca US$ 80). The members of the Nieta group intend to open a dairy in Marka-Coungo.
