The members of Benkadi are all married women who, on average, are 37 years old and have 3 children. They live in extended traditional families in the Dougoukoro neighborhood in the city of Yanfolila (one of the prefectures of the third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).
They are linked by bonds of neighborhood and friendship. This groups specializes in selling Wax pagne (a highly prized cloth in Africa) and cereals. They've been partnering with the Soro Yiriwaso institution for two years now and are seeking their fourth solidarity loan (group loan). All previous loans have been repaid without problems. This loan will enable them to buy 40 pieces of Wax pagne from wholesalers in Bamako, as well as 100 kg of cereals from itinerant merchants coming from the surrounding villages.
The pagnes are then cut into "trois pagnes" ("three pagnes", i.e. the amount of fabric needed to make some woman outfits) and retailed for cash in the market and in the various neighborhoods in Yanfolila. The business results in a profit of XOF 1250 (ca US$ 2.40) per piece. The cereals are retailed to a mostly female clientele, for cash and on credit.
The members of the Benkadi group hope to make, each in their speciality, a monthly profit of XOF 50'000 (ca US$ 100) that thy intend to use to repay the loan and help their husbands in providing for the family. The women of this group have the ambition to open cereals shops to broaden their clientele.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK

Entrepreneur: Benkadi (entente) Group
Location: Yanfolila, Mali
