Palmira Joao da Costa Mata was born in Macaneta in the district of Boane in the province of Maputo. She is 49 years old, divorced, and mother of twin sons who are 15 years old and in school. Besides her children, she supports 4 nieces and nephews who live with her.

Palmira studied until the 6th grade and then stopped because she lacked the conditions to continue. The education in her zone only went up to 6th grade, and her parents weren’t able to send her to boarding school outside the district. Since her childhood, Palmira has never lived in another zone. She lives in her own house.

Palmira is a businesswoman and sells a variety of products ranging from peanuts, beans, sugar, oil, etc. She has a daily income of 1500 MT. This is Palmira’s fourth loan with Hluvuku and her first with Kiva. She found out about Hluvuku through advertising done by Hluvuku promoters at the market.

Palmira is confident she can pay before the estimated time because she has a project of building rooms for rent in her yard. She is counting on the credit.

Update on Palmira Mata's Kiva Loan

Entrepreneur: Palmira João Da Costa Mata
Location: Boane, Maputo, Mozambique

From the depths of the Boane central market Palmira Costa Mata has been selling a range of produce products for the last 6 years. Her best selling products are tomatoes, potatoes, onions, beans and nuts. She used her Kiva loan to increase her product inventory.

Palmira gets all of her products from the capital city, Maputo. The products she buys there are imported from South Africa. She said that the price of these imported products have increased steeply over the last year driving her profit margins down.

In the Future Palmira would like to get electricity for her produce stand so that she can stay open at night and buy a refrigerator to store fresh fish.

Thank you for being part of Palmira's success!
