Reynaldo lives in the Hialia IV neighborhood located in Managua. He is 29 years old and married to a sales woman who helps with the household bills. They have two children together of ages 11 and 8, both who are in school and help their father with his business. Currently, Reynaldo makes a living by running his small business that sells whole grains, tortillas, and beans. He started this business more than a year ago with the proceeds from the sale of his farm enabling him to buy a small house in the capital and establish his business. He strives to see his business grow so that he can afford home improvements. Consequently, he works with the loans that AFODENIC has given him by investing in the purchase of merchandise that will increase his sales. For this reason, he is requesting a loan of 12,0000 C for a period of 12 months in order to acquire more capital for his work, especially in these last months when the demand for his products is high.

Mi préstamo con Kiva

Entrepreneur: Reynaldo Arauz Tinoco
Location: Managua, Nicaragua

My name is Amanda and will be the voice of this progress report; I work for Afodenic the organization that loan to Reynaldo.

Reynaldo requested a loan from Kiva through Afodenic to invest in the small convenient store run and own by his family. However, various acts of violence (robbery) near the store drew the costumers away. The decrease in costumers resulted in the decrease in income, and soon the store meant more expenses than revenues for the family, so they decided it was time to close it. With the store closed, the family moved back to a farm in the northern part of the city. They are now dedicated to agriculture, and with the money from the sale of products they are re-paying the debt with Kiva and providing for the family. Reynaldo is sad for how things turned out, but is glad to be able to honor his debt to Kiva
