Benkadi (entente) Group

The four women of the Benkadi group, all of whom are married and 30 years old on average with 4 children living in big traditional families in Sanoubougou II, the central city of Sikasso (3rd administrative region of Mali), met each other through family and neighborhood connections. Very energetic and experienced, these women specialized in “pagnes wax” (traditional wrap-arounds), damask (a prized fabric in West Africa), different kinds of containers, rice, and beauty products.

In order to satisfy the needs of its ever-increasing clientele, the group decided to incorporate the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso through a local women’s association (Association SOLEIL de Sanoubougou II) and is on its third united loan (group loan) after having properly repaid the preceding loans.

They stock up in the city of Sikasso and surrounding areas and in Bamako. With this loan, they intend to buy 10 pieces of “pagnes wax,” 10 pieces of damask, 4 sets of containers, 6 sacks of rice, and 15 boxes of pomade, hair gel, lotion, etc. The products are sold at retail, for cash or credit in markets and while traveling in the city of Sikasso to a clientele composed generally of women. They hope to each make an average of 20,000 FCFA per month with this 3rd loan, which will be used to make loan payments and meet the needs of the family; the rest will be invested in respective businesses.

Les quatre (4) femmes du groupe Benkadi, toutes mariées avec une moyenne d’âge de 30 ans et 4 enfants vivent dans des grandes familles traditionneles à Sanoubougou II, le centre ville de Sikasso (3ème région administrative du Mali) se sont connue à travers des liens de parenté et de voisinage. Très dynamiques et experimentées, ces femmes se sont spécialisées dans le commerce de pagnes wax, de bazins(tissus très prisés en Afrique de l’ouest), de tasses de différentes sortes, du riz et des produits de beauté.
Ce groupe dans le soucis de satisfaire le besoin de sa clientèle qui ne cesse d’augmenter a décidé d’intégrer l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso à travers une association des femmes de son quartier (Assiciation SOLEIL de Sanoubougou II) et est à son troisième prêt solidaire (prêt du groupe) après avoir correctement remboursé les prêts précédents.
Elles s’approvisionnent dans la ville de Sikasso et environnants et à Bamako.
Avec ce premier prêt, elles comptent acheter 10 pièces de pagne wax, 10 pièces de bazins, 4 jeux tasse, 6 sacs de riz et 15 cartons de pommade, de gel pour les cheveux, de crème pour la peau etc.
Les produits sont vendus en détail, au comptant et à crédit aux marchés et de façon ambulante dans la ville de Sikasso à une clientèle composée très généralement des femmes.
Elles espèrent réaliser chacune avec ce troisième prêt un bénéfice moyen de 20.000 FCFA par mois qui sera utiliser pour payer les intérêts du prêt, subvenir aux besoins de la famille et investir le reste dans les activités respectives.
