Benkadi is a group of seven women, all married, who average 34 years of age and four children. They live in traditional extended families in the Mancourani I district of the city of Sikasso (third adminstrative region of the Republic of Mali). This group has chosen to become specialized in making attièkè (a dough or mash made of cassava) and in selling condiments, potatoes, and charcoal. Theirs has been a shared apprenticeship with their respective mothers, who are friends from childhood.

The Benkadi group has had three solidarity loans, which have all been correctly repaid. The current loan that the group is requesting will enable the members to buy: 20 sacks of potatoes, 20 sacks of cassava, and 8 sacks of charcoal, and to create a stock of condiments (eggplants, onions, okra, flavorings, 10 boxes of tomato paste). The principal source of supplies for this group is in the city of Sikasso from peasant producers and wholesale merchants. The merchandise purchased in this way is sold for cash at the marketplace or door-to-door to customers essentially composed of women.

With this loan, they each envision realizing an average profit of 35,000 francs CFA per month, which will be used to support their families and to invest the remainder in their respective businesses. The women of this group have the ambition to become wholesaler sellers one day.
