Ana belongs to the community bank Atenas Portillanasu, located at Raul Porras Barrenechea Number 170 in the district of Yarina Cocha of the department of Ucayali. She is 62 years old, a mother of 9 grown children, and married. Her husband works as a farmer. With the first loan of about $100 USD from Manuela Ramos, she invested in a grocery business. She has been working with the bank for 7 years. She owns two transport motorcycles and with the help of her two grandsons, who work daily providing transportation, she makes enough to repay her loan on time. With this loan of $500 USD, which she will repay in 5 months, she can buy 4 tires, headlights, have the seats recovered, and fix and maintain the engines. Thanks to Manuela Ramos, she has realized one of her dreams, that of having two transport motorcycles of her own and thanks to them her financial situation has improved.

Update on your loan recipient, Ana Maria from Pucallpa, Peru

Entrepreneur: Ana Maria Pizango Murayari
Location: Yarinacocha - Ucayali, Peru

Last week Ana Maria welcomed me warmly into her home off of one of Pucallpa´s many dirt side streets. She treated me to a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice and a homemade popsicle during our conversation. Ana Maria has three motorcycle taxis which her sons drive daily. This taxi business, Ana Maria's only source of income, provides enough to eat and to pay the bills but does not pay for much else. Fortunately it is enough to live on.

Ana Maria has been working with Kiva partner Manuela Ramos for 10 years. Ana Maria will soon begin paying back a new loan of 1800 soles (about $600) through her communal bank, "Atenas Portillanas". Ana Maria used this loan to purchase a new motor and some other parts for one of her motorcycle taxis. Maria used her very first loan of 300 soles (about $100) to invest in a grocery shop that she had at the time. Eventually, Maria decided to shut down her store and invest in motorcycle taxis so that three of her adult sons could have an occupation.

Ana Maria is separated from her husband and has 9 children altogether. Although several of her children still live with Ana Maria, only her youngest (aged 22) is still dependent on her. Ana Maria really wants to fix up her house and had been saving some money to do the repair work. Unfortunately, one of her sons got sick and she had to spend all of her savings on his medical expenses. Ana Maria is also hoping to reopen her grocery business at some point; this time she would like to sell her products from a small kiosk in front of her house.

In this short video clip Ana Maria talks about her goal of moving forward with her business and in life, particularly in order to continue to help her sons.
