Hipolita's Kiva loan

Entrepreneur: Hipolita
Location: Location Undisclosed, Peru

Hipolita, whom you made a loan to last month, is one of several dozen artisans who work closely with FINCA Peru Exports (FPX), an offshoot of FINCA Peru. FPX’s mission is to “fight poverty with art” by giving its member artisans access to fair trade markets, training support, and a fair price for their work. All FPX artisans are members of FINCA Peru’s Village Banks or their immediate family members.

Hipolita works with FPX making hand-woven purses, pillows, tapestries and rugs for export. She has six looms in her workshop, and also owns her own stand in Ayacucho’s Ex-Penal Market, a former prison that has been refurbished as an artisan market (each cell has been turned into an artisan’s stand).

If you are interested in learning more about FPX or supporting Hipolita and other FPX artisans – including six other Kiva borrowers – please visit FPX’s website, where you can read about the artisans and purchase their work. Many of the woven items on the site were produced by Hipolita and her family: http://www.fincaperuexports.org/

You can read more about Hipolita and see a picture of her workshop here:
