Farhat Altaf Hussain's Group

Farhat Baji is the wife of Altaf Hussain and lives in a city named Arifwala, Pakistan. She owes a two-room brick house and has been living in it for the past 10 years. She has one son. Her son is a driver by profession and drives an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). Farhat Baji’s husband sells plastic sheets which are specifically used to cover tables. He has been in this business for the past 20 years. He buys the plastic sheets from different cities (Lahore, Faisal Abad). Farhat Baji is a housewife and prefers to do household work and take care of her family. She successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more plastic sheets to resell.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Farida Baji wants a loan to buy cigarettes to resell. Naseeem Baji wants a loan to buy wheat to resell. Faizan Baji wants a loan to buy materials (washing powder, bleach) for her laundry business. Nasreen Baji wants a loan to buy candies to sell in shops.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
