Musarat Javed Iqbal's Group

Musarat baji is the widow of Javed Iqbal and lives in a historical place named Yadgar of the city Lahore, Pakistan. She has been living in this place for the last 17 years. She is the mother of five children: four sons and one daughter. Her eldest son runs a mobile shop. The next to him is a tailor and completed his education till 8th standard. Her daughter stays at home and does household work.

Musarat baji herself has a clothes selling business. She has been in this business for the last 18 years. She buys clothes from a big clothing market named “Shahalmi and Feroz pur Road”. She successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more clothes to resell.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Kosar baji wants a loan to buy construction supplies (cement and sand) to resell. Shaista baji wants a loan to buy medicines to resell. Parveen baji wants a loan to buy more clothes to resell. Fazilat baji wants a loan to buy a lathe machine.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
