Pm Sokun Thear

Pm Sokun Thear is 38 years old and lives in Siem Reap Province with her husband and their four children. She is a housewife managing the family and the household. Her husband Khork Say is 49 years old and works at CIMAX organization and earns on average $8 per day. Two of her children go to school, one is too young for school, and her oldest son works as a tuk-tuk driver where he earns about $5 per day (a tuk-tuk is a seated cart pulled by motorbike that is used as transportation/taxi by people in Cambodia). Her household expenses are about $160 per month.

Pm Sokun Thear is requesting a loan of $1200 to purchase a motorbike that would help her husband commute to work. This would cut down on commute time, and save money since they would not have to pay a moto-taxi for his daily commute. Also, Pm Sokun Thear would like to open a grocery stand in the future.

Pm Sokun Thear is requesting a loan through Kiva’s field partner CREDIT – Micro Finance Institution. CREDIT-MFI has a repayment rate of 99.8% with a portfolio at risk 30+ at 0.33% (taken from their 2007 Annual report). CREDIT – MFI structures their non-agriculture Kiva loans with a declining balance interest rate. Agriculture loans are structured as balloon repayments with monthly interest rate payments and principle repayments at the end of the loan.
