Sonia Khurram's Group

Sonia baji is the wife of Mr. Khurram and lives in a small area named Bund Road of City Lahore, Pakistan. She owns a two-room brick house and has been living in it for the last 8 years. She is the mother of one son. Her son is Ali and he is 5 years old. Sonia baji’s husband works in a hotel as a waiter. Sonia baji herself is a housewife and prefers to do household work and take care of her family. Her husband wants to start his own business, and he decided to buy a donkey cart, which he wants to use for loading purposes. For that she requires a loan.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Siddiqa baji wants a loan to buy more groceries for her grocery shop. Kalsoom baji wants a loan to buy electrical supplies (tube lights, switchboards) for her electric shop. Budhwanti baji wants a loan to buy old and rough wheels/tires of vehicles to resell. Kiran baji wants a loan to buy more perfumes for her perfume shop.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
