Edith del Socorro Bermúdez has worked selling children’s clothing for the past four years. She sells the clothing from her own place on the outskirts of the Masaya market. She is a married woman and has a young daughter whom she supports.

The reason she has turned to Ceprodel is to get a loan to buy children’s clothing. For this, she hopes that the loan will be granted and that she will be able to continue her business from her space in the Masaya neighborhood.

News from Nicaragua: Update on Edith Del Socorro Bermúdez Trejos Loan

Entrepreneur: Edith Del Socorro Bermúdez Trejos
Location: Masaya, Nicaragua

This Kiva Fellow had the good fortune to interview Edith Del Socorro Bermúdez Trejos at her children's clothing store in Masaya, a city famous for its artisans and residents proud of their reputation as fierce fighters earned from many centuries of uprisings against the Spanish, American mercenary and confederate William Walker (who appointed himself president of Nicaragua), the U.S. Marines and Somoza's National Guard.

A mother of a two-year-old, Doña Edith opened her store three years ago with the help and backing of her sister-in-law who has a children's clothing store in Managua. Called "Fashion Infantil," the store is located in the front of her parents' house and sells baby clothes for infants and toddlers plus sheets, baby bath tubs and toys. Edith is paying back her loan with Kiva partner CEPRODEL. She studied international relations at the Universidad de CentroAmerica and lives in her own house.

In the future, she would like to sell strollers and portable cribs. She thanks Kiva lenders for supporting her business and family.

About CEPRODEL:
