Hello, my name is Vicky Aguilar. I am 25 years old and married to Mr. Santos Lagos, with whom I have a 3-year-old daughter. My husband works and together we pay the bills. For three years I have made a living selling food. I sold clothes previously, but since I've been married my mother-in-law has helped me start my own business. I have many good customers and I also sell bottled water. I'm located in the Mongollano neighborhood near the SULA Milk building, and almost all of the employees come to business to buy lunch and other snacks. I also allow some of the workers to pay me on credit, and at the end of the month they pay me for all they have taken. Currently I am in very high demand and I need to buy more supplies to meet my customers' demands. Due to the current high costs of my supplies, it's impossible for me to meet these demands on my own, so I'm requesting a loan to be able to keep making headway with my business.

Kiva Journal Update for Vicki Aguilar Chirinos

Entrepreneur: Vicky Aguilar Chirinos
Location: San Lorenzo, Honduras

As a Kiva Fellow working with Kiva’s local partner MFI, Prisma Honduras, I recently had the opportunity to visit with Vicki.

Vicki runs a small eatery out of her home where she serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to customers daily. Sometimes she has as many as 10 clients a day, and hopes that this will increase as her variety continues to grow. This is a brand new business, and she estimates that her profits after costs are about 1025 Lempira a month, or about $54. She sees this as only the beginning. Vicki used the Kiva loan to purchase food in bulk.

In addition to this income she sells make-up. The Avon Company provides her with catalogs, which she then takes to neighbors and friends who order what they want. At a monthly meeting in the city center, she collects the items they’ve ordered and delivers them to their houses for a commission. Between her food business, Avon sales and her husband’s work as a truck driver, Vicki feels confident they can get ahead and provide an education for their daughter who is turning 4 shortly.

I visited with Vicki the day after the inauguration of President Obama, and she was very interested in my perspective on it. She said she was really happy to learn that the US isn’t as racist as she thought. She hopes the economy will improve in the US and that food prices in Honduras will start to drop.

Thank you for supporting Vicki and supporting Kiva.
