Magdalena Pongo Vilcahuaman

Magdalena is 47-years old and is happily living with her husband and one of her daughters. For the last 12-years, she and her husband have dedicated themselves to the art of shoe making. At a very young age, her husband worked for a shoemaker and gained a lot of knowledge which he eventually used to start his own business. And from there, Magdalena learned to make shoes of all designs, using basic materials in leather for all shapes and sizes. Their shop, with the passage of time has been growing, and today they make about 100 pairs of shoes. With these years of working, Magdalena and her husband have managed to purchase the plot of land where their house is, put three kids through school with two of them now as professionals who are able to fend for themselves.

For Magdalena, she feels that she gets the most satisfaction performing her job for her family. Every weekend they go to the city of Ayacucho and Huanta to sell their shoes. Sometimes, for Magdalena it is very difficult when customers don’t repay their debt on time. Magdalena strives each day to succeed and to help her youngest daughter get a college education. She requests a loan to buy more leather and tools to make shoes and to increase their production. Magdalena’s great desire is to be an exporter of their products, for which they are preparing their youngest daughter to take up the challenge.

Magdalena tiene 47 años, vive muy feliz con su esposo y una de sus hijas. Por más de 12 años, ella y su esposo se han estado dedicando a la fabricación de zapatos, que cada vez es en mayor escala, su esposo desde muy joven trabajaba en una zapatería y todos estos conocimientos los volcó en su negocio, es de ahí que Magdalena aprendió a confeccionar zapatos de todo tipo de diseño, básicamente en material de cuero, en todas sus variedades y tallas. Su taller, con el paso de los años ha ido creciendo, hoy puede fabricar alrededor de 100 pares de zapatos, con estos años de trabajo, Magdalena y su esposo han logrado comprar su propio terreno para su casa, pudo educar a sus 3 hijos, dos de ellos ya son profesionales que pueden valerse por si mismos, por ello se siente muy satisfecha de este trabajo independiente que desempeñan en familia. Todos los fines de semana va a las ciudades de Ayacucho y Huanta para vender sus zapatos, a veces para ella, lo más difícil es cuando los clientes que sacaron al crédito no devuelven el dinero a tiempo. Magdalena se esfuerza para poder cada día superarse y ayudar a su última hija que está estudiando en la universidad. Solicita este préstamo, con el que podrá comprar más cuero e implementos para fabricar sus zapatos y hacer crecer su producción, el gran anhelo de Magdalena, es exportar lo que produce, para lo cual su última hija se está preparando con sus estudios para asumir ese reto.
