This is Yaya Jalloh. He was born in Kabala about 38 years ago. Yaya is married to a business woman and the two have four children, all of whom are in primary schools. Yaya deals in cattle and has been in this business for the past 15 years now. He buys the cattle in villages surrounding Kabala, including Dogulia and Bindi. He sells in Kabala and sometimes in Bo and Kenema, both larger cities in southern and eastern Sierra Leone. Prices for cattle in the villages vary depending on the size of the cattle (between Le 70,000 and Le 90,000). He then sells the cattle at prices between Le 80,000.00 and 110,000.00.

Sometimes in his business, Yaya encounters some challenges. Challenges include slow sales, sick or dead cattle and theft. In certain cases, however, Yaya can overcome the challenge of a sick animal by taking it to the veterinarian. Previous loans have helped Yaya a great deal. Yaya was able to buy a motorbike that he uses as transportation to villages where he purchases the cattle. He can also now pay for school fees, food and clothes for his children. He is thankful for SMT, as SMT loans have improved his living condition tremendously.

Furthermore, Kiva loans to Yaya are making him and his family happy because of the financial benefit he receives from such loans. With the increased profits gained through these loans, Yaya says the burden of taking care of his family is reduced.
