Parveen baji is married to Javed Bhatti and lives in a small town named Bund Road in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. She has been living in this town for the last 14 years. She is the mother of four children: two sons and two daughters. All of her children are enrolled in a local school in her neighborhood. Parveen baji's husband has a scrap business. He has been in this business for the last ten years. Parveen baji herself sews clothes for her neighbors and earns a profit. She successfully repaid her previous two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan and a Kiva Field Partner). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more scrap (plastic bottles and waste papers) for her husband's scrap business.

Parveen baji is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Irshad baji wants a loan to buy material (beads, colored thread) for her decorative embroidery business. Parveen baji wants a loan to repair an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). Rani baji wants a loan to buy clothes to resell. Rozi baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
